What Is Multiwall Polycarbonate?
Multiwall polycarbonate sheets feature multiple layers with hollow chambers between them, creating a lightweight yet incredibly durable glazing material. The hollow structure provides excellent insulation properties while maintaining transparency and light diffusion. Each sheet is co-extruded with a UV-absorption layer on the outer surface to protect against yellowing and UV degradation.
Typical applications include pergola roofs, lean-tos, greenhouses, car ports, canopies, smoking shelters, and commercial skylights. The sheets are easy to cut with a stanley knife or jigsaw, making them ideal for custom projects of any size.

How to Choose the Right Thickness
Pergolas & Garden Structures
Recommended: 10mm — Provides insulation, light diffusion & wind resistance. Lightweight installation.
Greenhouses & Growing
Recommended: 6–10mm — Thicker sheets (8–10mm) retain winter warmth. Clear or opal for light transmission.
Car Ports & High-Impact Areas
Recommended: 8–10mm — Better impact & wind load resistance. Bronze colour reduces headlight glare.
Skylights & Large Spans
Recommended: 10–16mm — Structural rigidity for unsupported spans. Handles snow & concentrated loads.
Installation & Support
Multiwall polycarbonate is easy to install with standard tools:
- Cutting: Jigsaw or handsaw (avoid high-speed circular saws)
- Drilling: Standard drill bits; pre-drill for large fixings
- Expansion: Allow thermal movement (~1mm per meter). Don't over-tighten fixings
- Sealing: Use butyl tape or silicone sealant to prevent condensation
- Ventilation: Ensure cavity is vented to prevent moisture buildup
