Why Choose 16mm Bronze Triplewall Polycarbonate Roofing Sheets?
Our 16mm bronze triplewall polycarbonate sheets are the popular choice for conservatories, carports and canopy roofs where keeping heat out is just as important as keeping it in. The dark bronze tint absorbs a significant proportion of incoming solar energy, reducing glare and heat build-up beneath the roof. At 18% light transmission, the space below remains comfortably shaded — well suited to south-facing structures that would otherwise overheat in summer. The three-wall internal structure still delivers the same strong U-value of 2.40 W/m²K, and impact resistance is 200 times that of glass, with a co-extruded UV protective layer for long-term durability.
Applications
Conservatories and Sunrooms: The go-to choice for south-facing conservatories that overheat in summer. The bronze tint significantly reduces solar gain through the roof, keeping the space usable on hot days without the need for blinds or additional shading.
Carports and Canopy Roofs: Reduces glare and heat for anyone working or spending time beneath the canopy. The shaded environment is more comfortable than clear or opal on sunny days, while still admitting enough light to see clearly.
Covered Patios and Outdoor Seating Areas: Creates a cooler, more sheltered feel for outdoor dining and seating areas where direct sun through a clear or opal roof would make the space uncomfortable in warmer months.
Garden Buildings and Storage: Where direct sunlight through the roof would cause overheating of contents — particularly relevant for garden rooms used as offices or for storage of heat-sensitive items.
Covered Walkways and Bike Shelters: The bronze tint gives a distinctive, contemporary appearance and provides shade for users passing underneath, making it a practical and attractive option for sheltered walkways and covered storage areas.
Need more light transmission? The same 16mm triplewall is also available in Opal (42% LT) for diffused light, or Clear (77% LT) for maximum brightness. For the highest thermal performance in our range, see our 25mm 7-wall polycarbonate sheets.
Benefits
Superior Thermal Insulation: The triplewall structure reduces the U-value to 2.40 W/m²K compared to 3.20 W/m²K for 10mm twinwall. This means meaningfully less heat loss in winter and better resistance to overheating in summer — an important consideration for conservatories and sunrooms used as habitable spaces.
Impact Resistance: 200 times stronger than glass and highly resistant to hailstones, wind-blown debris and accidental impact. Far safer and more practical than glass for roofing applications, with performance maintained across a broad temperature range of -40°C to +100°C.
Maximum Solar Control: At 18% light transmission, the bronze tint absorbs the majority of incoming sunlight, significantly reducing heat build-up and glare beneath the roof. This makes bronze the practical choice for south-facing or sun-exposed structures where clear or opal sheeting would result in an uncomfortably warm space in summer.
UV Protection: Co-extruded UV protective layer on the outer surface blocks over 98% of harmful UV radiation, preventing yellowing and loss of strength over time. Sheets must always be installed with the UV-protected side facing outward.
Lightweight: At approximately 2.7 kg/m², 16mm triplewall imposes far less structural load than glass, making on-site handling, cutting and installation significantly more straightforward.
Installation Note: When fitting 16mm triplewall polycarbonate on a roof, maximum rafter spacing must not exceed 1050mm. Always install with the UV-protected side facing outward and ribs running vertically or up-slope. Seal the top edge with solid aluminium tape and use a vented U-profile at the bottom edge to allow condensation to drain. Allow 3.5mm per linear metre for thermal movement in glazing bars and end closures. Full fitting advice in our multiwall polycarbonate installation guide.
